ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR APPLIED MINERALOGY - ICAM-Council

The International Council for Applied Mineralogy (ICAM) was established in 1979, shortly before the installation of the Commission for Applied Mineralogy (CAM) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 1979. The objectives of IMA-CAM comprise: the organization and coordination of congresses, symposia, seminars or meetings devoted to applied mineralogy, communication with other organizations active in this area, between applied mineralogists in various fields (technical mineralogy, geometallurgy, applied mineralogy of ceramics, development and application of functional materials, including cement and glass, ecology and medicine, analytical methods), with particular attention for mineral surfaces and nanoparticles.

In the past, ICAM Congress has been on a four-year schedule, but since ICAM 2011 in Trondheim/NO, ICAM Congress has been organized every odd year, to keep up with accelerated developments in analysis, instrumentation, automation, mineral industry, and society's demand for minerals.
