Chief editor Askhabov Askhab Magomedovich

Academician Askhab Magomedovich Askhabov is an outstanding researcher and a recognized specialist in the field of theoretical and experimental mineralogy, mineralogical crystallography and crystallogenesis, Chief Researcher of the Laboratory of Experimental Mineralogy, Professor.

He has been working at the Institute of Geology of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1972, where he rose from senior laboratory assistant to Director. In 1977, he defended his thesis of Candidate of Sciences, and in 1989, his Doctoral thesis. In 1994 he was awarded the title of Professor in Physical Chemistry. In 1997 he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in 2011 – the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. From May 2006 to April 2016 - Chairman of the Presidium of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, from February 2008 to December 2017 – Director of the Institute of geology of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

A. M. Askhabov is known as a specialist in Mineralogy, Crystallography, Crystallogenesis, and Nanomineralogy. He is the author of more than 450 scientific papers, including more than two dozen monographs and individual publications. His research in a number of areas of crystal genetics – on the physics of a growing crystal, the theory of growth evolution of the "crystal-environment" system, the quantitative kinetics of crystallogenesis, cluster growth of crystals – are pioneering and widely known. He created a scientific school for the study of crystal formation processes at the micro- and nanolevel, which in 2012 was recognized as the leading scientific school in Russia.

Askhab Magomedovich conducts a large scientific, organizational and social work, manages a number of scientific programs, projects and topics. For ten years he headed the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of geology. Academician A. M. Askhabov is a member of various scientific societies, including foreign ones, a leader or a member of a number of public and educational organizations, is a member of the government commissions of the Komi Republic on science and innovation. He is the Chairman of the Syktyvkar branch of the Russian Mineralogical Society, the Chief Editor of two scientific journals. For many years he has been a member of the Bureau of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Presidium of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Also, A. M. Askhabov actively participates in the training of scientific personnel. He reads courses of lectures on topical issues of Mineralogy, Crystallography, Nanotechnology in universities and scientific institutions of the country. He prepared nine candidates and two doctors of sciences.
